The best time for a safari?
What vehicles are used?
Safari adapted 4×4 vehicles.
How much does it cost?
Hard to give an answer, certainly Safari is not a cheap type of vacation. Costs depend on several factors, the main ones being the type of accommodations and their location, the length of the trip, the number of people, and the time of year. To simplify, three types of accommodations can be categorized:
- Luxury tented camps or lodges from €700.00 to over €1,000.00 per person per day.
- Medium category tented camps or lodges from €400.00 - €600.00 per person per day.
- Accommodation in tented camps about 250.00 € per person per day.
It should be noted that these prices are approximate and include all meals and overnight stays, transportation, guide, entrance fees to parks (very expensive especially in some areas) and if an internal flight is provided.
Is it dangerous?
Considering the number of accidents and the amount of tourists who choose a safari each year, definitely not! However, one must always remember that animals are wild and unpredictable, although in some parks they may seem domesticated they are NOT domesticated at all. Don't be fooled by their relaxed and close proximity to vehicles; they are merely habituated. This is why it is essential to contact qualified people with lots of field experience who can recognize animal behavior and avoid potentially dangerous situations.
What vaccinations should be given?
Can I bring the children?
(Absolutely!) Many lodges and tented camps are equipped with family or interconnecting rooms/tents perfect for families with children. The possibility of combining a photographic safari with a beach vacation (e.g. Tanzania and Zanzibar) is perfectly suited for a trip with children. For safety reasons, however, some camps require a minimum age, usually 6 years old. Always specify the age of all participants and make sure there are no restrictions.
